Turn Off Single Click Windows 7

We have just applied a new Windows Machine 2008 R2 package on our VMWare server, and everything is running fine. However, for the living of me l cannot turn óff the 'single-cIick to open an item (point to select)' option despite the option not getting selectedin the Control -panel - Folder choices (the double-click to open up option can be chosen).This is usually getting increasingly irritating.
